The screen will immediately light up again once you press any key.

There doesnt seem to be any function to disable this ’screensaver’ feature.

So you wont really know if your phone has been switched off, has run out of battery or is merely in ‘powersaving mode’.

Can you afford to miss some important calls because you assumed wrongly that your phone is merely in resting mode?

From the Nokia support forum’s discussion threads, many people do not like this but there is no solution yet.

The Nokia 2730 has for sure got a stylish look. But the features and the keypad are not so promising. People who are looking out for an economic model with better features can give a try with Nokia 6303.
It is one step ahead than Nokia 2730 to give full value to your money.

Nokia Maps 2.0 which will not work as the 2730 Classic as it does not support .sisx files
Ovi Maps 3.0 which will not recognise a 2730 Classic
Nokia Maps S40 which is apparently preinstalled and cannot be upgraded.

Incredibly I have had the following responce from Nokia support

“Since your 2730 classic is an S40 device, you are correct in telling that your phone will only support Nokia Maps for S40 and the maps application is pre-loaded and cannot be upgraded. It also appears that the latest Nokia Maps Updater or Loader does not support 2730 Classic device, thus, downloading of map data cannot be supported as well. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I appreciate your understanding on this matter.”

I am wondering how I am supposed to be understanding of the fact that Nokia advertises and sells a phone with a feature that clearly does not, and can not work.

I don’t understand why the above post says it’s laggy. Menus are quite responsive unless you get used to the keyboard.

I haven’t tried internet connection yet since I’m waiting for an update on my provider’s contract, but so far it’s fine. Camera is quite on par with phones on the same cost range (you won’t get National Geographic covers, but it certainly does the trick).

Audio player is quite good quality (obviously below high-end specialized mp3 players, but quite satisfactory), typing is comfortable (text prediction engine will make you forget about qwerty keyboards for 99% of the time), 2gb memory is more than enough for the kind of media this phone can handle, maps application that can be used with external gps devices (if you don’t install google maps, which can use cell-id information)..

To sum up, I’m very pleased with this phone. If you’re looking for an affordable, complete, 3.5G machine, this could be your first candidate.

For volume control, you just use the buttons on the keypad (instead of separate buttons on the side of the phone).

My only complaint is that it’s a bit hard to type SMS text on the small keypad, probably because I have large Caucasian fingers (maybe OK for smaller Asian fingers!)

1st store: it was very laggy, menus opened slow, things didn’t load, buttons didn’t respond

2nd store: the phone did not turn on, the salesman couldn’t demonstrate it. He tried charging it – nothing, no response.

3rd store: still laggy, but a little better. Skype function worked alright, however, it didn’t seem to be possible to minimize it? Can anyone comment?
