Driver Installation Package
Windows XP (SP2 recommended)

Introduction
——————————–
This installation is a compilation of drivers for the M1530 that are guaranteed to work, without leaving any undiscovered devices in device manager, and with all devices working correctly. Most drivers are in bare-minimum format where possible, and will require manual installation via device manager’s “have disk” method. This will ensure the cleanest possible driver installation with minimum driver-induced bloatware, for the fastest system performance. Afterall, that’s why you’re giving Vista the flick, right?
——————————–
Instructions
——————————–
First step: AHCI SATA support (IMPORTANT!)
The hardest part of the installation is the support for AHCI SATA mode.
Installation Mehod : First step is to turn off SATA AHCI mode in BIOS (you’ll switch it from AHCI to ATA). Search through BIOS until you find it. It will advise that you have to disable “Flash Cache” first, do this, and then set SATA mode to ATA instead of AHCI. Then, save your settings, reboot and install XP as usual. Once XP is installed, install the AHCI driver yourself via the file in the folder /AHCI. After this has been done successfully, you can go back into the BIOS and re-enable SATA AHCI mode and Flash Cache.

Now that that’s taken care of, it’s a simple process of installing the remaining drivers. I’ll suggest the order, and also note if the driver is optional (ie. not required). I’ll also specify the driver version; I’ve sourced the best performing and/or latest (in that order) drivers where possible for this compilation. Note that most drivers will require installation via Windows Device Manager’s “Have Disk” method (point it to the INF in the appropriate driver’s folder).

1. Chipset         (1.1.15.0)            MANDATORY
2. Audio          (5.10.5210.0)            MANDATORY
3. Video         (174.31, DELL)            MANDATORY
4. Card Reader         (6.00.01.05) 3 separate drivers    MANDATORY
5. Ethernet         (10.60.6.3)            MANDATORY
6. Touchpad         (7.1.102.7, DELL)        MANDATORY
7. Fingerprint Reader     (1.9.2.0111)            MANDATORY
8. Wireless         (11.5.1.15)            MANDATORY
9. Bluetooth         (6.1.0.300, 5.0.1.2609, DELL)    OPTIONAL
10. Webcam         (2.0, DELL)            OPTIONAL
11. Quickset        (8.3.11, DELL)            OPTIONAL
12. winamp Plugin    (1.0)                OPTIONAL

My suggestions of mandatory and optional are not strict, but I found installing all the mandatory ones left me with no “unknown devices” in Device Manager. Note that for the winamp plugin, you can place it in your /Winamp/Plugins folder to allow the M1530’s media controls (as well as the remote control) to work in Winamp. Also note that quickset isn’t necessary for the special keyboard and media control functions to work (eg. brightness/volume controls), all it does is provide the on-screen display. I didn’t install it.

If you have trouble installing quickset, do a silent install:
Start > Run and type “location of file” -s
so in my case it is c:\1530drivers\Quickset\setup.exe -s
This will install the quickset drivers
and not give you an error message (skips doing OS check).

Hi, I have the same problem as Matthew. I have installed winXP SP3 and all drivers. But I can’t get the AHCI driver to install. When I try to install the AHCI it says system does not meet minumum requirements. Can U help me?

  8. Doug says:

A couple of corrections, one of which should help some of you who have already posted questions about getting AHCI installed and working. The proper way to address the AHCI problem is _NOT_ to turn it off in BIOS! During the first phase of installing Windows XP, there is an opportunity to press F6 to pause the install while you supply Windows XP Setup with needed third-party RAID/SCSI drivers (including AHCI). That is what is needed: Do the F6 option. (Before you get ready to install Windows, download the AHCI “BIOS” drivers to a floppy disk. This is a small set of INF and SYS files. When you press F6, you will be given the chance to provide that floppy. Then, Windows will be able to continue, while AHCI is still enabled in BIOS. Afterward, when Windows XP is installed, the AHCI “windows installer” needs to be run from within Windows, as a second step in the process.

    Hi,

This is a amazing. Job well done. All though there were lots of blogs and discussion forums on XP drivers for XPS 1530, none of them were this detail and as singular a source for drivers as this one. Makes one easy job.
I have one question though. My XPS1530 has a Blu-Ray writer. Any chance I can find the XP drivers for them? I searched everywhere without success. That is the only thing that is stopping me from downgrading to XP. Any help or pointers would be really helpful and I will be greatful to you.

    Once Again thanks a ton.

  18. Sri says:

    Hi All,

I got all the drivers installed except “AHCI drivers” when i try to install the AHCI it says system does not meet minimum requirements, but Win XP SP2 is working fine with one problem
The problem is,I have XPS M1530 with 4GB RAM,after i installed Win XP SP2 my RAM is showing as 3.5GB.Looking forward for a resolution.

    Cheers
    Sri

  19. Torch says:

Wow, this does look to be a great singular source for drivers for the XPS M1530. I too am concerned about the Blu-Ray disc writer drivers for my machine however.

Can anyone comment on their experience installing the AHCI drivers the way Doug suggested (during the XP install, press F6 , install driver, minus the floppy of course)? Will the XP install process _NOT_ allow reading from a CD or something, which requires a Floppy to USB adapter?

    Thanks,
    Torch

  20. Torch says:

I think I see the delima now, you CAN’T eject the XP Install compact disc with out consequently interupting it and therefore must install the AHCI driver another way. If USB works during the process, what about flash drive or external hard-drive or even the camera card port? Please tell me you do not need PCI or PCMCIA adapter for floppy.

  21. Excellentnuke says:

I need the CD Drive drivers. It’s undetected my XPS M1530 running on Windows XP.

  22. KN Rao says:

    Thankz

  24. Michael says:

to install AHCI drivers on this laptop you’ll need to download and install nLite. There are walk through’s on the net to help get through this. Essentially with nlite you’ll take a Windows XP cd and Integrate the drivers into it, well on another blank CD. Hope that helps

  25. Led says:

    Hi everyone !

Anybody know how to solve this problem
    thanx

  26. Bijosn says:

    thanks for the links.

For those struggling with ahci driver problems on WinXP, see
the first post\OP in the thread below. It should solve all your problems without you having to slipstream or use a floppy.

Once you have complete the procedures listed above and rebooted your pc in ahci mode (set in bios), you can then install the new complete ahci drivers specified on this page.

  27. rios says:

thanks for the links, they all seem to work fine. However, I can’t seem to conect to the internet, in that I can find google but when I go to windows update or in fact any download site it loses connection, at my wits end here, I checked my browser options and adapters but nothing seems to work, everytime I just lose connection. Its an external broadband modem. I working on a dell xps m1530 downgraded to xp sp3. Anyone out there that can help

  28. Ken says:

I have installed xp and all the drivers. everything is working perfectly fine besides wireless connection… don’t know why but wireless drivers are not installed.
Anybody help me out here with wireless drivers…

  29. Ryba says:

Great article that’s why I decided to write the solution here. You don’t have to disable flash* and ahci. You just need:
    windows installation CD
    installed nLite
drivers for your HDD 32-??bit Intel® RST Driver Files for F6 Install http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18860&ProdId=2101&lang=eng
    64 – probably it doesn’t matter

    1. run nLite
    2. next
    3. browse to windows cd location
    4. target destination to save files
    5. wait till all files will be copied on hdd
    6. 2 x next
    7. In task selection activate buttons: drivers, bootable iso. Here you can modify your image (extra drivers, service pack, customization of installation etc.)
    8. next
    9. insert – multiple driver folder – OK – select from the list Intel(R) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
    10. next
    11. agree to start process
    12. press button Make ISO
    13. …
Now you have your own windows instalation cd with appropriate hdd drivers ready to install Win XP on your M1530. You don’t have to press f6, enable ATA, etc…
    Regards,

  30. Steinar says:
