How is the laptop?
I am deciding to buy this one…but I am skeptical as I read, on internet, that there are issues relating to Laptop hanging while playing games apart from other issues.
Seems to be a compatibility issue between some of its parts with the motherboard.

Actually talking this configuration is not meant to work on Windows XP as a nativity hence there will be isues but good work brother.

I want to let you guys know it is EASY to downgrade from Vista to XP.
@Ryan- yes it is possible to make it happen as I have done this a few times for my friends.
@ James- that would happen because unfortunately Windows XP doesn’t have the driver for SATA. You would have to make a slipstreamed CD of Windows XP WITH SATA driver install in it.

when windows xp sp2 installing, I download the drivers fo dell studio 1555 it fine, But at step winxp sp2 License agreement we have press F8. it can continue forward. every time it at that stage so, iam getting problem to install winxpsp2 on dell studio 1555 any solution pls forward

I want both VISTA and XP in my system.
I changed SATA mode to IDE and installed XP.
But now Iam not able to start up VISTA.
And if I change IDE maode again to AHCI VISTA is working but XP fails to start up.
I am totally confused now.

Yo compre un Studio 1555 y le instalé XP sin problemas. Hay q meterse a la bios apetando f2 y cambiar donde dice SATA. dp usé un xp sp3 y el cd de los drivers, incluido en el paquete de dell. funciona TODO.
i bought a studio 1555 and made a clean xp sp3 install. y had to get into the bios and change the setting where it said SATA. that’s it! i used the driver CD included in the dell package. everything works!

its got to do with your bios setup,
change your sata settings to ide, because vista uses the other interface, had the same problem, its also got to do with your kernal memory

Steps to Fix Blue ERROR in Dell Studio 1555
1) Go to BIOS by pressing F12 key
2) set the flash cache option as NO

5) put in the windows XP installation Disk in the drive
6) install it

to restore AHCI and have XP working there is a solution changing some registry setting, I’ve used it in 2 PCs.

Secondly, i have been wanting to install xp by slipstreaming the SATA drivers. People say that works.
But will i have to slip stream all other drivers too with it?

Yes that IS the case. No probs i suppose. When u want to switch to the other OS, you can take a little more effort by doin that change in the BIOS
btw.. @Robert above suggests googling for “AHCI and windows XP”… hope that gives some more info!

I have a studio 1555 laptop but my 1394 poort is not working.
When i connect my handycam (Samsung) to it using the required 6point Pin Firewire cable the device is not detected.
All my drivers are working, i have chk in device manager except BaseSystemDevice and NetworkController they are shown with yellow mark .is the problem due to this .. Where do i find drivers to resolve this issue.
dnt go for it its the worst creation of dell i bought and facing problems & no technical help company is giving i called many a times go for hp its best
I dont find XP 64-bit drivers anywhere on the internet. Even on the official dell site, the drivers for XP is of 32-bit.

Hi….my dell has been downgraded to xp last year and so far this site has been helping me a lot. However, just recently I need to record via plugging in my guitar but nothing came out. I’ve tried using the microphone but again failed. FYI, i’m using the microsoft default sound recorder. Can somebody help? Thanks.
