all drivers work, but i haven’t been able to install a driver for the fingerprint reader and something that make the backlit keyboard work.

Thanks for drivers, evrything works well on my Dell Studio 1535, but internal microphone and microphone jack. And one more issue: hardware wireless switcher (left panel, near display) turns on/off only bluetoth, but wifi are on all the time.
So does anybody know how to :
1. make microphone work ?
2. make wireless switcher turn on/off both bluetoth and wifi ?

Has anyone managed to get their Dell 1537 Studio 15 laptop working fully on XP?
I have problems with the 1394 Net Adapter (firewire?) driver and I haven’t been able to get Wireless lan working at decent speed.
I also have the unknown “Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus” even though sound is working on my 1537.
I’m currently running my SATA drive in IDE mode from the BIOS too and I suspect thats what the other two Unknown devices are.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Admin but I’m afraid the infinst_autol.exe doesn’t help. I’ve just wiped the machine, reinstalled WinXP from scratch again and installed that first. “1394 Net Adapter” is still showing with a yellow exclamation mark on it. The Device Status is “This device cannot start. (Code 10)”. Any ideas anyone? Does this mean that the driver is correct but something else is wrong??

Arghh.. Apart from the 1394 problem I am down to two unknown devices now. One would appear to be need an ACPI driver ?? (it says “on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System”) and the other is an unknown PCI Device “PCI bus 0, device 27, function 0″.
Anybody know what these are? Nearly there.. I keep searching but I’m not having that much luck. I’ve got everything working that I want to work – I’m just worried that these unknown devices will impact the performance of my laptop? I’d quite happily set them all to disabled – would this slow anything down at all or just mean that I can’t use the devices.. whatever they may be?
OK, the PCI device above was the sound card. Above it says “If you have an unknown audio device than install this patch kb888111xpsp2.exe and than update the unknown device with the AMD HDMI driver/”. How do you do this? I’ve ran the patch and tried manually selecting the driver but I can’t find any HDMI devices under the AMD section??
I’m trying to downgrade on a studio 1735, using an old XP install CD that’s dated 2003 and says “service pack 1a included”. I boot on the CD, it loads many drivers, then crashes with a message that “something went wrong”… Maybe a generic driver in the install CD does not work with the hardware ? The question is: how to get the drivers published here onto an install CD ? Since installing the mentionned drivers assumes a basic XP is installed already …

The mic is not working on Studio 1535 with Win XP. But there is an alternative solution. If you have a bluetooth headset, pair it with your laptop. I use my Jabra Bluetooth headset that way with skype, msn, gtalk on the laptop. It works for voice calls, plus with the webcam on the laptop you can make video calls too…

Originally, it’s a solution meant voor Toshiba’s, but it may be working for Dell’s 1535 too.
At the moment, I’m not able to test it, but as soon I get home, I’ll try it myself.

i have a 1537 for 2 weeks noe and tried to dowmgrade to xp too. since it is a 1537 with the new centrino 2 (8400)base a couldn’t use all of the drivers.
And there still is the same 1394-problem mentioned by Sparky.And I do have a unknown device (“Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System”).Nothing helped by now. AND the System has major powermanagement-problems: I can put the 1537 in standby and it looks like everything is o.k. but it will get hot. If i put it on hibernate mode it stores everything and goes down. For some time I can put it back on and everything is fine but if I leave the 1537 in hibernation vor about 20-30 minutes it comes up again with nothing done before. And overall soundvolume is really low even if everything is on max.
@Nazarenko,P: tried your driver: it works for sound as for mic too! one step closer!!! but the volume that the mic records is very low too!

a shame that dell does such a cash in from microsoft to forbid their costumers to choose their OS themselfs just to force on their new vista!
one question tho:
i didnt see any specific infrared drivers or soemthing for that small wireless media remote control!??? are they included somewhere in the package?

Girish, the lan card driver is working perfect
you might need to update your bios.
***make sure ur laptop is running on ac adapter and don’t run anything else while updating the bios***
download bios update from here.

restart your system after bios update and install the lan driver again.
everything is working except the fingerprint, lenovo software installs and works fine and i also saw in the device manager that the fingerprint is installed correctly but while running the lenovo software i get a message saying ” cannot communicate with the sensor. please confirm the sensor is ready” help me out guys
rizwan, i’m working on the same issue. i believe if you go to your services you’ll notice the fingerprint service is stopped. try starting it

First of all thanks for all the information, this definitely saved me some work
Everything up and running here, except for the firewire controller (…and the mic, but i don’t care).
Everest says it’s a “Ricoh RL5C832 IEEE1394 Controller”, but every driver I found on the net is basically the same package linked above for the cardreader. So I figure normally this will also correctly install firewire, but i can’t get it to work here – still standard drivers with yellow exclamation mark.
Did anyone have the same problem and tracked down the driver or figured out another solution?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
For those who have problems with MIC: When I install “IDT PC Audio XP Driver” my MIC not work, but I found that in sound properties on MIC TAB is MUTE. So do next: “Start”->Control Panel->Sound and audio devices->Advanced(in Device volume)->find there Microphone and check if the Mute is on.(If you don’t see the Microfone, go Options-> Properties and check Microfone/LineIn.
My problem is:
My Audio and MIC work perfectly, but I still in Device manager see in yellow query: Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus. Someone know how to solve this problem???

I installed all wifi drivers, updated bios, but wireless still doesn’t work. i doesn’t connect automatically, and when i set it manually, it connects, but doesn’t receive packets, only sends.. still in search for a solution..
I also have the 1394 Net Adaptor with exclamation mark & an unknown device. i thought it may be the bluetooth coz when i installed the driver package i get an error message saying please turn on the bluetooth device. Well turning on the wi/fi bluetooth switch at the left side of the panel does not work. Is there another way to turn it on.

how were you guys able to delete your old vista??? i tried booting my xp-cd –> bluescreen… i also tried booting an old SuSecd –> unable to mount cddrive!!! if i try to format c: from vistadvd it says c: can´t be formated! what can i do??

to make the fingerprint reader work, you have to run the extracted SetUp32 file.. click start then run and then browse to where you saved the SetUP32 file then click ok.afterwards, the installer wizard would walk you trough the installation process. that should work coz mine did..good luck!!!

i have the studio 1537 and everything except for the firewire controller is working (and maybe the mic, didnt bother trying). Some drivers are different from the ones posted here, but most work.

Ok, mic works, but the voice sound is too low. There is no microphone boost in IDT panel.
Does studio’s audio card support microphone boost? How can I make voice louder (except screaming =))?
p.s. Build in mic still doesn’t work.

i dont see anyone else having problems with the display adapter, its the only thing I can not get installed. The wizard just stops during set up and I can not load the drivers manually. Says no info on device. any help pleae? thank you in advance

I think it might have something to do with the OCHI IEEE 1394 bus drivers
chuckym70 – I had the same issue. My issue was my 1535 didn’t have ATI graphics, it has Intel graphics. I installed the Intel Chipset drivers and my display problem went away.

Display drivers have already been modded, so you can just install them.
As said before firewire isn’t working, still haven’t found the drivers.

Thanks for the info and drivers. Almost all drivers are wrking fine but CIR, Fingerprint and the notorious internal mic…
1) I installed the CIR (R181761.exe). How do I operate Dell Travel Remote? Must I create an HPA partition and install Dell Media Direct? Does it work? Any other way to use this remote control or just throw it away?
2) Regarding the fingerprint reader: once inside windows the Digital Persona works fine. But for logging into windows I have this (Lenovo) screen that start with “Please wait” and then report that it cannot communicate with the sensor or similar. So login to Windows doesn’t work. I tried to install instead of Lenovo 7wf114ww.exe Authentec driver R207052.exe. Again I can use the fingerprint inside windows, but doesn’t work for Windows login. Any idea?
3) Any news regarding the internal and/or external microphone issues?

did you change the bios setting for the harddrive from sata to ide?
You need Win XP(boot) with SP3. Only Sp3 has sata support:)

I tried installing the updated IDT Audio drivers provided by Nazarenko. This does make the mic function, albeit at a really low volume. Unfortunately, when using skype it also now gives a really weird crackle on the sound and an echo a second or so behind. Is the mic now feeding back?

Dell Studio 1535 – I downloaded the audio driver linked by Maksim and Hansklok, but my mic still doesn’t work. It’s not a problem of “disable” check in the audio settings. Now is disappeared the “unknown peripheral” message in the Device manager box: Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus. Can anybody help me? I just spent a few hours being redirected with Dell support.
I was told there are no drivers for the Studio 1537 to support XP.
Take my advice and don’t buy a Dell. I was told prior to purchasing it would not be a problem installing XP, and that support could help me out. Now, they first said there’d be a charge… and then that it’s not even possible.
I guess it’s time for me to learn all new software!

download and install Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP (exe) (winxp_14324.exe) , this driver will install video + hdmi driver.

Concerning the firewire problem on the 1537: I just read that the exclamation mark problem just means that you can’t use network capabilities, normal firewire use is supposed to work. Didn’t try it myself yet, because I don’t have a 46 pin apapter^^

Beside from the 1394 problem I am down to two unknown devices now. One would appear to be need an ACPI driver ?? (it says “on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System”) and the other is an unknown PCI Device “PCI bus 0, device 27, function 0?.

I have found everything I need for the 1536 I am working on, except that I always have the SM BUS controller with a ! left. I can’t find any driver that will take care of it. This one has the AMD Turion X2 processor. I am on my 3rd try at getting XP functional. I’d gladly leave it as Vista, but it is Vista Home and I NEED to put it on a business network/domain.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I install finger print successfully on my dell studio 1535 xp operating system.First I install Microsoft inteletype pro keyboard driver.while installing this driver we have to select multi media keyboard.then install digital persona personal dell driver cd for vista.then install authentec AES2810 sensor driver.Now it working very well.
Well I’ve got it all almost working on my 1537 thanks to multiple sites and people sharing info. I’m thinking of creating a page on my site, a how to for the 1537’s and a big zip file with every needed driver. Also found multiple copies/versions of drivers for the 1537, some work better than others, some are newer than others. Will do the legwork and determine the most optimal driver for each device. I’m only stuck on the fingerprint reader and 1 unknown device. everything else is working, except maybe the built in mic, and the speaker volume is a bit lower than I’d like.

Rizwan/The Man/others, did you ever solve the Cannot Communicate with Sensor issue? I installed the Lenovo drivers first and the driver works, but when running Lenovo’s fingerprint enrollment, I get a cannot communicate with sensor error. On the Windows login screen, the fingerprint icon is there but it says ‘please wait’ and just sits there. I installed the Dell DigitalPersonal software as well and it works with the sensor, but it seems geared toward website and program login/passwords, not for the actual windows login. I think the Lenovo Fingerprint program is for windows login only, and the digialpersona software is for ‘everything else’ such as websites/programs/etc. but only digitalpersona can communicate with the fingerprint reader on my 1537.
btw… I’m very near releasing a zip file for the 1537 with an instructions txt file, that will include everything you need to get Windows XP working on the 1537. I used a combination of other zip files I found and I even found multiple drivers for the same hardware so I spent hours finding the best/newest driver and included that in my zip file, etc. I am quite disappointed with the 2 year old IDT sound drivers for this laptop, the volume sucks and the built in mic doesn’t work. I discovered the Dell Vista driver for the sound will ‘take’ in windows xp, but the device fails to start, I plan on trying to mix dll’s from the older drivers and newer drivers to see if I can find a ‘perfect’ combination.

I’m trying alot of the links and some are dead like the chipset drivers, audio, etc. I guess install the faulty one mentioned above? You’re saying it makes your speakers crackle. Some of us are trying to use audio recording software on this machine and that’s a major concern. So this is unacceptable. Anyone got the right one?
And when am I supposed to install all these, inside XP? What about the so called SATA drivers that need to be “slipstreamed” into the install?

Customizing IDT Panel is not a solution for BUILD-IN microphone. Did anyone resolved this issue?
Before even TRYING this, I think I’m still going to do a bit more research because too many people are still having problems. Maybe we need to start over from scratch and post all the correct drivers somewhere once we finally have them? And this blog started with the Dell Studio 1535, so is the 1537 the same thing? Otherwise people, can we please stick to the original topic. Thank you.
If someone can post all the necessary drivers somewhere where they have been tested and I am able to get it up and running, I will donate $50 to you thru paypal for your hard work.
I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this but I realized that even with Win XP SP3 is installed (it supposedly comes with SATA support), you still cannot boot XP via SATA after all said and done.

I have a 1537 and the drivers for the 1535 works with it. My problem now is the firewire 1394 and one Unknown Device. To install XP, I booted via IDE (F2 > Advanced > SATA Mode Selection > change it to IDE) then pop in a XP cd (depending on your XP cd i.e. with SP1, or SP2, etc), you’ll have a host of unknown devices when you’re done installing. That’s where those drivers come into place. And to install the drivers, just download Snakes’s file and unzip them. Then go into each folder, and double click the setup icon to start.

I’m curious because that’s what i mainly need to work for me, the audio. Heck, if that doesn’t work maybe you need to try the drivers from comparable models! If yours ain’t working, what have you got to lose? I don’t think testing multiple audio drivers would mess us your system or anything, they either will work or not work.

Okay, similar to what is going on with other machines, my device manager also shows an Unknown Device under Other Devices and a yellow ! showing up against 1394 Net Adapter. however my major worry at the moment is that am unable to use any of the media control buttons and obviously the remote doesnt work!! ive tried installing 1525’s quickset tool for xp but it throws up an error!! the 1537 vista version of this s/w wont install either! any ideas/suggestion on this one? the craziest problem is that i cant even have both the OS’s on a normal dual boot!! i have to keep swapping the Sata option in BIOS everytime i want to boot into either XP or Vista!!

Soundcard drivers from Dell Inspiron 1545 work like a charm on Studio 1537. Mic works, only thing: you have to activate microphone boost (Mirosoft Panel).
Any tips for last issues remaining?: Firewire and unknown device (should be the media direct button on the left. Dell Quickset driver for XP should fix this issue, but i didn’t found one working with Studio notebooks)

DELL 1537 is too new. Driver for Remote Controller instaling, but is doesn’t work. Studio 1537/1737 and Studio XPS laptops are first with Intel PM45/GM45 chipset – most drivers have support only for Vista.
We have 2 options:
1. Legal donwgrade Vista->XP – public drivers for all
2. Installing Win XP Media Center. Maybe this system has drivers for multimedia buttons and remote controller and maybe this drivers will be compatibile for XP prof.
One must try.
I installed windows xp x64 and inspiron 1545 sound drivers work just fine.

does these driver fix the cracklin/poping sound proplem, thats the only reason why i would downgrade to xp. i cant get to fix that problem even if i disable the broadband as other forums propose. even the tweeked drivers does not help so i hope downgrading to xp will.

I finally found a solution to fix the “tinny sound”/”no bass” issue with the old sounddrivers floating around!
This is the XP driver for the studio series laptops posted here and on several other sites updated with the binaries from the driver released by dell on March 03, 2009 (filename: IDT_92HDxxx-HD-Audio_A06_R213367.exe):

As a side note:
If you are using the foobar2000 player and experience crackling/noise on playback after the installation you have to download the kernel streaming output plugin from the foobar homepage and switch output to kernel streaming.

I just noticed that if you reboot with the headphones/speakers plugged in the low-cut is active again until you unplug/plugin again. A little annoying, but hey at least it works.

I´ve tried the “possible” solutions posted here and nothing worked. Let me say that the unknown device to me is related to the bottons of the direct launch panel (PNP0C32 Direct Application Launch Button).

Thanks for the tip with Inspiron 1545 drivers for the microphone, it worked indeed like a charm! As other users mentioned, you have to enable microphone boost, though:
Control -> Sounds -> Voice Tab -> Voice Recording -> Volume. Options (top-right) -> Advanced controls (new button appears, “Advanced”). Check the box next to Microphone boost (all the way down).
For those who might have an “Unknown Device” located “on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System” “ACPI/PNP0C32/0″ (check it using device manager)… It’s the “Direct Application launch button” driver.

WiFi finally worked with the Dell Latitude E4200 Intel WiFi Link 5100 Driver. Currently only have the 1394 Net Adapter marked yellow. Does someone knows meanwhile how to solve that?

Hi, for 1394 two workarounds:
1) search for used driver files in vista device manager and copy/use these files for xp (it works except drvers are marked as not digitally signed)
2) search for the xp 1394 inf file and revise it such that the line with Ricoh device info (see vista driver inf) is added (it works except drivers are marked as not digitally signed)
BTW: I think it is anyway just a cosmetic issue with the yellow mark in device manager. no problems with stand by or hybernate so far for several months.
one more: every time new graphics or audio drivers for vista are published by dell, also xp drivers for studio 1555 are published, too. You have to search the dell ftp site for files similar in file number, date and size to the new vista drivers. have fun, Mick

Working yes, but without Firewire, Infrared remote could not work, sound is very poor quality (like $5 speaker).
The display driver for ATI HD3450 constantly fails. I can’t use HDMI output and every 5-10 minutes the display freezes up. I have to put the computer to sleep and then wake it up in order for the display and driver to re-interface.
Is there any way to get a HD3400 series driver for XP? Apparently AMD / ATI only makes it for Vista. Is there a reason for this? Maybe XP cant handle the HD-ness of the video card, if that makes any sense. I really dont know, but it would be nice if this worked since this is pretty much the only downfall to XP on my Studio 1535 right now.

I just saw that ATI released drivers for the Radeon HD series. Here is a link to the HD3400 series.

1. Uninstall any previous graphics driver
2. Download and run Catalyst Control Center (Driver is Included)
3. Open package. Setup will fail. But everything has been unzipped to your C:\ Drive
4. When windows prompts you to install new hardware, choose to install your own driver.
5. Then choose Have Disk.
6. Browse to C:\ATI\Support\9-5_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Driver and choose the driver.
7. A list will appear, choose your Specific Device from the list.
8. Install despite XP telling you it could not verify the driver.
9. After you install and restart, go to C:\ATI\Support\9-5_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\CCC and run Setup.exe to install Catalyst control center if you desire it.
Now my Display works great and I can watch Blu-Ray movies through HDMI output.
The only problem now is getting the HDMI audio to work….
Any help would be appreciated.

I was using vista on my Dell Studio 1535, and 2 week ago I installed the xp,but now my microphone is not working and the quality of the sound is very bad. Help me , please!!thanks
Someone can help me for audio drivers. After every installation nothing happend,there is no speaker by the clock at the right side in bottom. It’s studio 1535 too. Somebody ?

it has been shown in my device manager as Network adapter/other devices/unknown device
the location mentiond is Microsoft ACPI-Compliant system

hola a todos tengo una noteboock dell studio 1737, y me he pasado a un windows xp pero me dejaron de funsionar el wireles y el audio , alguno me podria decir donde conseguir todos los controladores de la 1737 porque ahi algunas otras cosillas que tampoco funsionan .

I have a studio 1536 and i have been searching for all the xp drivers. I have almost everything working perfect i only need a few more drivers for two base system devices and one unknown device. If i find the rest of the drivers i will post a link to download the set.
I have a 1737 I downgraded to XP Pro. Everything works fine except I can’t put the system into hibernation or go to standby. If you shut the lid or try to manually go to standby, it says preparing to go to standby and hangs. You have to power down the system with the power button. I hear there are no drivers for the 1394 Net Adapter to properly work on XP, No problem for me, but the standby issue I need a fix for.

Hello, I have a problem with the camera. She works in skype, and just open it and remove the video or set I can not. help. All the above drivers are installed. The same problem began when re-installed Vista on xp
