It works! You saved me A LOT of time. My first unit didn't work with the SATA optical drive at all so they sent me a new E4200 and with your instructions I got XP successfully installed. I thought I would never see the day when this thing would work. Thanks again.

The following steps are needed to switch the system from ATA to AHCI:

- Please download the following driver: http://ftp.us.dell.com/SATA/Intel_Matrix-Storage-Manager_A05_R207268.exe extract the file on your desktop

- Open the device manager an look for the two devices (Screen: AHCI-1) and update both devices as follow:

- Right click on the device à update driver… -à no, not this time à continue à choose option, where you can get the driver from a special source à continue

- Do not search, but get the driver from the file you created on the desktop (Screen AHCI-2)

- Chhose the file iastor.inf (Screen AHCI-3) à get the needed driver: „Intel® ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller“

- Ignore the warning and close the window with „yes“

- ATTENTION!! à do not restart the system now, repeat all steps with the second controller (Screen AHCI-1)

- Now restart the system, but don´t boot windows! Enter the BIOS

- BIOS à set SATA Operation to AHCI à save (apply) and exit BIOS

- Start Windows à let the system finish the driver installation à restart again à install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager (http://ftp.us.dell.com/SATA/Intel_Matrix-Storage-Manager_A04_R207267.exe)
