Also, has anyone actually done a successful XP install with these drivers? Want to be sure they work before I wipe my laptop!!
Thanks

But, can’t find a working sound driver. Can anyone help?
I am trying to do one now, although everytime i get to the end of the initial loading devices stage before you click Enter and F8 to agree to the terms and conditions it Blue screens giving an Error code.
I could post this if it means anything to anyone, has anyone else done this successfully and if so could you please tell me how. thanks in advance, Craig

Hey All,
iam working on the atheros wireless driver. you will find it working shortly.
As for the sound card driver, did u guys follow the instructions inside zip file readme.txt? plz follow the instructions in that text file.
Ben would u kindly post the 1397 wireless driver here so everyone can get it?
thank you guys
***UPDATE***
Heres the correct atheros wireless driver
plz check it and let me know
thanks
I didn’t Follow the instructions 100% for the sound drivers (Click happy i think) and now it wont work, I have tried un-installing and re-installing them the correct way and i still must have done something wrong as it says IDT High Definition Audio Codec (Cannot Start Code 10)
Now i have messed up can i sort it without formatting. thanks
Ok, that Wireless Driver is corrupt also, or at least the one i downloaded is. have you another. Please say you do
Thanks, Craig
this friver for wireless is corrupted again
Hey there,
I just spent 3 hours trying to install the audio drivers on the 1545 and it still doesn’t work. Did anyone definately get the Audio to run on their 1545?
I have Windows XP Professional SP3 which required me to edit the registry in order to install that kb888blaSP2.exe file. Apart from that I closely followed the instructions.
“This device cannot start. (Code 10)” is all I get though. Any ideas? Anyone with me?
Cheers!
Still No Joy, just formatting and re-installing the lot. Hopefully i can get the sound driver right this time and the Wireless will have to wait until our Admin sorts the file out
I will let you know how i get on, Can anyone tell me if the Dell Wireless drivers up there ^^^ work ? I didnt manage to do it but it installed and said there was no Driver (or is this what i need the Atheros one for ??)… Any help would be greatfully Appreciated. Thanks
i require sound drivers, infact everybody requires it.
also the zip file for wireless drivers is corrupted.
admin can you upload right drivers this time…we really need to get hold of all these drivers..
thanks in advance
Hi Coodle, I Get the Exact Same, i have even formatted and re-tried again, Still no joy on the Wireless, did you get that sorted ? thanks.
i found audio driver here http://www.dell800.com/thread-5162-1-1.html . help me for wifi driver please
Thanks for the links.
Installed the drivers and everything works fine except the wireless.
Keep getting random BSOD though trying to access writeable RAM.
Any idea?
Thanks.
Thanks Dinko, your a star, now we just need the Atheros Wireless driver and were all sorted…… Anyone ?? Pleaseeeeeeee
I started reformatting a UK Dell 1545 from vista to xp pro at 6pm friday. I have xp running now, and was going to start on the drivers, which i took from this site.
I was gonna start with the wireless atheros, but will await admin’s new version.
Whilst we’re waiting, could someone explain to me what the 1397 wireless driver does, and what the wifi driver does ? Cause maybe i dont need the atheros driver…
richard
Richard, I installed the 1397 Driver and it shows up in Device manager as a 1397 then but says Driver not installed
I have just researched the Atheros Driver and it is Version 7.6.0.239 I have found an Atheros Wireless AR5xxx ver: 7.6.0.239 on this website http://www.driversdown.com/ViewDownloadUrl.asp?ID=100675&brNum=3&show=0 I just dont know as yet until it finishes downloading whether it will work, Craig
p.s. I will be in touch very soon
No, that driver seems to be a no go either. Don’t know why, or if its just me, someone else can try it if they like and spend the next 30 mins downloading it for nothing. Arghhhhhhhhhhh !!!! Stupid wireless
Fellas, lets take a step back for one second. Johan reported that he “installed the drivers and everything works fine”.
So, Johan or Admin, can you explain the relationship between (i) the atheros, (ii) the wifi and (iii) the 1397 wireless ???
Do we need all of them or just one or some combo ??
I’m also wondering if we need to ahere to a particular install order ??…. Could that explain why some people have success and others dont ??
Richard
Have you sorted this wireles driver Admin ? we are all waiting for you, if you cant get it let me know and i will sort out something else (like a wireless dongle) lol
Craig, i just tried installing the 1397 wireless. But it says “OS is not supported”. My base layer at the moment is XP Pro SP2. If your install (at least) executed, what version of XP Pro are you running ?? You can email (if preferred) at larachbeg@hotmail.co.uk Richard
Big ups to you guys for doing all the hard work testing these drivers. I’m being a big yella chicken and not wiping Vista until a working Atheros Wireless driver turns up! Noticed that the repost archive was also corrupted
(
Got the audio driver off that japanese website to replace the original one posted. Thx dinko!
Playing the waiting game…
Hey Craig, it will be really appreciated if you find a working driver for the atheros wireless. its basically the Dell 1515 Wireless (Atheros).
thanks and sorry for the trouble you guys have faced.
lets sue the DELL
adios!
Hey Craig can i have your email address? i have sent you an email few days ago on the address you provided
Well i searched for 7 hours last night for the Atheros driver with no luck, and will be attempting again tonight.
I am also using XP Pro Sp2 and as with yourself Richarget the same OS not supported message, I installed the Device from Device manager, but that did not pick up the Driver, I also installed “Intel-WiFi-Link-5000.exe” and installed the software off there, It shows up now in Device Manager as a 1397 but says Driver not installed. I also installed the Atheros driver on top last night and still no joy. …. So I keep running into a wall every time. I can’t peomise i will be able to find this without help but i will try my best. Admin ? have you got the working file at all.? if so can you not email it to one of us and we will post a link to it.
Where did you source the file from that you have?
Any information from Anyone would be Greatfully Appreciated as were the Drivers for the rest of the Devices. Thanks, Craig
lol just looked at what i typed up there and i messed up a few times, serves me right for not checking it before i posted it
thanks admin, just got your emails, i will check that now. thanks
hey guys did the CAMERA DRIVER worked from that chinese page?!!
waiting impatiently for the wireless driver. iam counting on you craig my good friend
Sorry Junior but mine doesnt have the built in webcam so i cant help you there, Although The Sound driver off the chinese site works a treat.
thanks
Admin sourced another 2 files for us for the wireless but both come up with the error message “your Device is not Present” (I know it is)
I will continue my search tonight and hope for the best.
If anyone else finds it 1st please post it as soon as possible to save my eyes.
On this Japanese site, which weblink in the XP column is the audio ?? Also…..would it contain the elusive Atheros driver ?? How in the bally-heck did u guys interpret ??Richard
Hi Richard, Find where it says Intel (Under XP) Click R190031 icon (it comes up with IDT Audio) Click the green button and then the small one on next page and you should get it lol, Good Luck…
Or you could just click this link and that should do it. http://www1.uushare.com:8001/download/get_1B7FA126C157DE0496D3EAAC0B7065EF
p.s. you will need Winzip (or a .tar Extractor) to unzip it
Hi. have problem with most of drivers. message ‘operation system is not supported, software will not be installed’
any ideas? windows xp is genuin.
Guys, having downloaded the bluetooth stuff, can anyone give me advice on what i do with them now ??
A Very late night last night and still no joy with this Elusive wireless driver. has anyone successfully done it yet ? Every link i go to on the net sends me to this website, and no-where else has the driver for this 1545 laptop, I have tried another 30+ drivers for other makes and models and still no joy. I will continue my search later. Good luck.
where the hell the site admin has gone..
he so confidnetly said that he has put all windows xp drivers for dell 1545.
where is he hiding.
i think he is there to fool people who r in need..
Craig, i didnt get much done on the laptop over the weekend, between wife and kids… I did do some research after they went to bed on Sat night. In fact i stayed up till 2am Sunday morning searching for the wireless driver. I ended up at some website called ‘driver detective’. I was knacked, so didnt progress. I’ll stay on the wireless driver today. I sincerely hope we find a driver, cause i’m in deep sh1t if we cant
I ain’t going back to Vista.
Michael – drop me an email to larachbeg@hotmail.co.uk, telling me what your circumsatnces are (laptop make& model, current OS etc). We’ll take it from there.
Yeah Rich same here mate, I am exhausted from late nights looking for 1 dam driver, I also got to Driver detective but without registering it i had no further luck, then were not guarenteed it will definately work. Vista isn’t an option for me either, I only bought this so i could install XP. I will continue searching today too. Good luck mate.
surely someone somewhere has the driver we need !!!!
Jack, whilst i also am frustrated that i cant sort my laptop, if it wasnt for admin, we would be in a much deeper hole than we are now. He got us 90% of the way home. If we work together, i’m sure we’ll get some solution to the wireless issue.
Hey Jack we all are trying to help each other. I do not make drivers and DELL didnt provide the drivers. So its better to search for the drivers than accusing each other.I didnt mean to offense though. stay kool!
Craig and Richard iam also working on the wireless driver. keep up the good work guys.
EVERYONE !!!!!!
Hang fire, i’ve done it, wait here for further instructions BRB !!
So that means I should stop searching for the driver?
email me the tutorial or any thing you would like, and i will post it here with your name
iam waiting
adios

Click the link
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R174291&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=236819
Download that driver and Extract it
Go to Device manager, Right Click your Wireless Device and Update Driver, Select No Not at this time to search for internet updates, Press Next, Select Install from a Specific Location (advanced) and press next, Click Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install, and press Next, Click Have Disk and the Browse, Locate Driver folder R174291 (normally in C\Dell\Drivers), then go to Drivers and click bcmwl5 and press Open, Press Ok and install the Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card Driver by pressing Next, Then Finish, that worked for me guys, Good Luck Woooooooooooooo.
P.s. Just to Add, it installed, but then wouldn’t connect until i had Reset my System, so make sure you do this after you have installed the driver.
:D:D Sooooo fkin happy
Come in Someone give me some Feedback, did this work for anyone else ? thanks
Craig, sent you an email. I downloaded the file, but when i ran it, it threw an error, saying it couldnt find any hardware. Maybe thats because i couldnt run the 1397 driver (it said invalid OS). Were you able to install 1397 ??????
Hi Richard, you don’t need to Run the File, just do the Extract, and load the driver file itself through how i explained using Device manager.
Ok i have picture instructions for the XP Wireless setup if it helps anyone, please send me your email address if you would like a copy. thanks
Thank you very much GRAIG you are the best!THIS DRIVER WORK!
Dinko, did you install any of the three drivers from this website (1397, intel 5000, atheros) ??? I still cant get Craig’s driver to work.
That driver didn’t work here.
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
WORKS with Craig’s drivers instructions! Took a few attempts but it’s working now
Thanks CRAIG
The next thing that would be nice to get working are on-screen visuals for Caps Lock, volume, wireless on/off etc…
If any??
xp wireless
Yep this worked for me as well .. dont forget to reboot afterwards… Thankyou
Johnan, Email me:- wpcsystems@cblackpool.orangehome.co.uk and i will help you sort it
Craig
Oh my god – THANKS Craig for the effort! You’re the man
Oh well, or not
.
The driver only worked when I installed it the first time.
Doesnt after a reboot, reinstalling it afterwards doesnt help either.
Coodle and Johan, if your still having problems, if you get online with your wired connection and install windows live messenger I will remote control your computer and sort it for you, I did it for Richard and he’s sorted now. let me know….. wpcsystems@cblackpool.orangehome.co.uk
Thanks for the offer. If the files are definitely good I should be able to do it myself. I think installing too many wrong drivers has shafted it. It now thinks the correct driver is installed and will not update as it can’t find a better match.
thanks CRAIG . i can use wireless now.
Weird, it works now. Even though that Intel thingy in the taskbar still says the driver is not installed I can connect to networks via Windows.
Thanks for the offer Craig
.
Coodle, yes thats right, the software is saying the driver installed but we are only using windows wireless unless anyone got the right software for it. I Juist un-installed the software and used windows wireless. Nice one mate glad you got it sorted, Craig
Johan you have to Manually install the driver I have picture instructions that might help you to understand Exactly how to do it, but also if you follow every instruction i gave you it will work (did you press the Have disk button) when installing the wireless.
Thanks Craig, All sorted now.
I’ve uploaded an istaller that will install all (or you can choose which) of the Win XP drivers on to a 1545 inspiron.
May come in handy for someone… I’m know I’ll use it next time it gets formatted.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AJAEOUV1
Thanks craig.
u r gr8
This set of drivers worked for me.
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R189133&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=259099
This driver got the camera working. The quality of the picture is pretty crappy, I’m not sure if that’s the wrong driver or just the camera. Either way, it works. Oh and the post above is for the wireless card.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Dell-Precision-M2400-Creative-Labs-Integrated-Webcam-Driver-1032919-Download-72765.html
All, seems most of us are making good progress, entirely thanks to Craig. I still havent cracked bluetooth, nor AHCI and would like some sort of GUI to control volume etc. Anybody any suggestions ?
Well Johan thanks for that Driver installer i had to try it, i completely re-formatted again as i couldnt resist the temptation to see if it really works. I’m just a sucker for punishment, but this worked Great all except for a usb error message, i skipped this but everything else worked 100% Thanks Johan.
I also recommend this installer that Johan provided for us just click the link. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AJAEOUV1
i have posted all xp drivers on btjunkie for the dell inspiron 1545
Is anyone else having problems with the sound driver, the one on the installer above didn’t work for me so i updated the driver online but i get a “crackle” before and after every sound! also just wanted to say a big thank you for all your efforts!
Is it possiblr that there are different dell 1545 models thatuse slightly different components? I have a uk model which looks nothing like the pic at the top of this page. It’s gloss black with a blue lid.
Hi,
>CRAIG on January 8th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
How did you get round the blue screen problem on initial install please? I can’t even get the bl**dy thing to take XP
TIA
Alex
hi guys i am having the same laptop Johan described and i am gonna install xp sp2 so can u help me with caps lock functionality and other keys on the keyboard thanx
Has anyone been able to get bluetooth working?? If so, how did you do it? Thanks.
Craig, thanks very much for putting this page together. I have been avoiding Vista, and with the information you have posted, I can avoid Vista for a while longer.
I’m starting to think the bluetooth is optional for my laptop, and that is the reason I don’t see any sign of it.
@ alexp
If it bluescreens before it installs XP you need to change the SATA option in the BIOS to ATA
If the bluescreens are during windows but randomly you could try changing part of the boot.ini file.
change /NoExecute=OptIn to /noexecute=AlwaysOff
It worked for me.
HTH.
Johan, can you describe how you got bluetooth running ? And what drivers did you use ??? cheers
Richard, I have the Inspiron without the bluetooth or camera. You could ask Dell support.
mil gracias por hbrir sitios como estos
Craig or anybody that may know, new to this abit trying to install the wireless driver – ive downloaded – Dell_multi-device_A17_R174291.exe then ive gone into the device mgr to extract, but in device mgr theres no

TOC
how did you guys get xp on from vista? i have downloaded the sata drivers and put them to floppy but maching just gives blue screen of death after loading drivers (f6 method)
please help!!!
@ Lee
You don’t need any SATA drivers. Go in to the BIOS (hold F2 on start up) and change the SATA type to ATA. By default its set to ACHI.
thanks johan, will try it later!!
Everyone – whats that old saying…RTFM
I just had a quick browse throug the stup guide, and have found (to my delight) that we can toggle the function keys ! I hated having to press Fn before using any of the function keys. But in the BIOS, under ‘function key behaviour’ you can swap that over. Happy days !! Now i just need to crack bluetooth drivers…
Hi i have successfully installed xp to inspiron 1545

This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
Could This Be Why Im Hearing This Poping/Crackaling?
Also Thank you so much for this forum & all your guys hard work if it wasnt for this forum & you i dont think id of ever found the xp drivers

Hello all,
Has anybody found a display driver that actually works?? My screen is unproportioned, and I can’t even seem to get XP Pro Standby mode to be activated.
Hi All,
has any body managed to figure out how to get the caps lock/volume symbols come up on the screen when you activate them?
Nevermind, i found it. For anyone having the same troubles as myself, try this link:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2973&DwnldID=17180&strOSs=109&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional%20×64%20Edition&lang=eng
I have a big problem here, i cant even get xp to install, i have partitioned my HD as i wish to dual boot but upon install of XP pro i get to the bit were it says at the bottom, “winodws is starting up” ande then this blue screen comes up with all this error messaging.
Im using a dell 1545
can anybody help? please!!!
10 Guitars look this http://pic.xfastest.com/hyde211/share/AHCI/5.PNG
nice one Dinko, managed to get xp pro ultimate by Johney on there .
I am planning on dual booting vista that came with my dell 1545 and xp but im wondering if the fact that the bios was set to ACHI for vista will mess up the dual boot because i had to set it to ATA for XP, any thoughts on this people?
has anybody resolved this speakers crackling issue? i have had to reinstall vista for time been until i know there is a fully working solution for xp
(All drivers) as sound completly went after few days of having xp on luckly i had vista o.s with my laptop
Also 10 Guitars
Did u sort this problem ? is so how please?
“has any body managed to figure out how to get the caps lock/volume symbols come up on the screen when you activate them?”
How do you guys like the performance of the machine with xp instead of vista? Is it much better? I am thinking of getting a 1545 with xp installed instead.
Well, it feels alot less choppy and faster to me with XP.
I like it – you can really feel the difference.
vista is a bag of wank, but if your going to get your LT from PC world then dont let on that your putting XP on it as it will mess up yer warranty. XP so far runs pretty sweet for me and all the drivers for it are provided here. you can dual boot if you wish (what i have done) so you have the best of both worlds, video here,, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lfC8xKgv_Y
Has anybody successfully installed xp pro without this speaker crackling ? i hate vista and want rid but last time with i tryed the http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AJAEOUV1 installer got crackling
help please ive posted lots of posts and nobody has replyed
i want xp, vista is doing my nut in yet again lol
All, the only two issues i still have with the 1545 are (i) bluetooth and (ii) the lack of GUI for CAPS/volume. I never got the crackling speakers, are you definitely using the IDT driver ?
The audio driver in the all in one installer is from the Chinese Dell site. No idea about the crackling, does it help if yo disable the wifi?
im dont think it did i am going to try reinstalling with provided drivers on dell.com and the wireless one from here on my external hdd hopefully will work ok this time ill let you know how it goes in a couple of hours
Thankyou for replying johan
Successfully installed all apart from wifi driver i downloaded one which i though was for mine from here but it said wrong o.s ? in the http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AJAEOUV1 which wifi driver is in that becuase that worked 100% thanks very much for this tutorial
IF ANY BODY ELSE IS HAVING CRACKLING SOUND ISSUE THEN I SURGEST USEING AUDIO DRIVERS PROVIDED FROM DELL.COM
Sucess download the all drivers installer again and just installed wifi one and all woprking perfect now thank you so much for this forum and you efforts much appriated and usefull
:D:D:D:D BYE BYE VISTA (PIECE OF POO) HEHE
Which driver works for the wireless card? I have the Dell 1515 wireless card.
Thanks
It seems that none of the driver listed works for the dell 1515 wireless card…
My computer now is working pretty sweet with XP. The bluetooth seems to be the only device that is not working. Did you guys fix it? How? Help please!
wifi 1397 driver is here http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R189133&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=259099 installed it works great.
Mike here,
I am about to start this adventure and will use the megaupload installer shared with us by Johan and recommended by Craig. However, I’m really new at this so I’m assuming that I change SATA to ATA, then install the full version of XP SP2 from my disc. After this, do I install the drivers from the installer? At what stage do I do this?
Thanks in advaice!
Mike
The installer runs from within windows XP so let that install first then run it.
Johan,
Sorry, but do you mean to run the XP disc first and then go to the site and upload the installer and run it?
Thanks!
Mike
I have successfully gotten XP on my Dell and downloaded the drivers using the installer from MegaUpload. However, when I downloaded iTunes it detected a problem with my audio/video. Can someone please give me direction in this matter. Did anyone ever sort out the audio issue?
Thanks in advance!
Mike
Hi Mike, the audio driver has to be the one off the chinese site http://www.uushare.com/filedownload?user=royluan&id=1067034 that works perfectly without crackling, or at least it did for everyone i spoke to.
Been busy for a while not been able to get on here.
Hi Everyone, nice to see so many happy 1545 XP users now. Havent seen a post of Admin (hope your ok mate) but if anyone needs any help you can get me on windows live quite often, add:- perdy@bradwell29.fsnet.co.uk for MSN (But Plz no emails to that address it no longer accepts emails)
you can also get me on my Email address wpcsystems@cblackpool.orangehome.co.uk but my amount of junk mail sometimes masks the few genuine emails i get.
Hi to Johan, and Richard and Coodle and Dinko and Admin. hope your all doing ok. and good luck to any future installs from past and new visitors lets all say a big fat NO to vista !! I’m here if anyone should need help. give me a shout. Craig
Here is a full list of what i know works and its advisable to do them in this order too:-

Now this isnt to say that the other drivers the other users have posted Dont work, but i havent tried them yet so i cannot verify it.
I can say i have now successfully had my laptop up and running since January 16th 2009 with No problems (besides a lack of bluetooth thanks to dell Grrrr)
Criag, fortunately my wireless started working after using the installer from MegaUpload. I got the recommended IDT Audio driver from Dell and it is working but I’m not sure it’s working correctly. I say that because there is absolutely NO BASS reproduction at all! It’s all treble and mids. I tried using my equalizer to compensate with no joy! If I download the driver from the Chinese site will that correct the issue – you think?
Mike
Mike. To get bass… you have to disable the PC speaker. If you have the speaker icon in the tray next to the clock double click it and there should be an advanced button by the main volume control. in there should be a disable pc speaker button. It’s a pain but i haven’t found a work around.
^ Just to clarify. I’m talking about the small grey circular speaker in the tray that brings up the default windows volume control. It can be put there by: start -> settings -> control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> place volume icon in the taskbar.
Wireless 365 Bluetooth Driver and Utility Software can be found from Dell’s website:
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R197652&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=273241
The webpage says that it is compatible with E4200 and E4300. But when you run the program, you will see that it is compatible with Inspiron 1545 XP. It works great on my computer.
Tong – what does the utility software deliver exactly ?? Is it GUI for volume & caps-lock ???
I am not sure the exact capability of the utility software, since my mouse is the only bluetooth device I have. So far, the computer manages the mouse without any problem.
it work perfectly, thank you!!! (wireless)
Hey, guys! Good morning! Well, I got a Notebook Dell Inspiron 1545, I bought it with Vista, I changed this OS to XP SP3. But I was having problems with the Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card. Thanks God and all Admin Support I could solve 90% of the drivers problems. But, let me tell you this. I installed the Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card from a Dell Latitude. It worked! Download the Wireless drivers from http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Dell-Latitude-E4300-Wireless-1397-Half-MiniCard-Driver-A20-Download-71151.html, it is a 97.5 MB file, run it and you will solve your wireless problems. Lester Cuadra. If you are having problems to get it, send me a message, I will help you! lestercuadra@hotmail.com
Just to let you know Craig that you are a life saver!! Excellent work mate!
Hello,
I have read most comments here, however I found it a bit confusing. If someone got everything to work smootly could you please LIST the working drivers?
Btw, if I happen to install the wrong drivers, do I need to reinstall XP and start over? Because I have tried hella many now and my networking card wont even show up in the device manager! Thank you!
By the way, did anyone get the bass to work properly? What about you Johan? I only have tremble
Craig, Johan, and Dinko:
Thanks for all of your hard work getting all of these drivers together! I just got XP and all the drivers successfully installed and it’s working great! Cheers, guys!
I just bought Inspiron 1545 with Vista
installed XP on it
Wireless driver is not working
Tried the patchs but no LUCK
Please Help
@ Chris. To get more bass through headphones or speakers you’ll need to disable the PC speaker. Volume control – Advanced – PC Spk Mute. When the PC speaker is not muted the bass is drastically reduced to stop the little speakers from distorting under low frequencies. Heres a pic to explain what I mean better. http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2598/enablebass.jpg
hi actually i took inspiron 1545 with vista os .
i installed xp in that i didnot get xp suitable drivers from last week onwards iam searching daily
what i do please help me
Just put XP on a 1545. All XP drivers ARE available on Dell’s website EXCEPT the wireless. The 1545 I’m working on has the Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini Card. The driver file that’s needed is R189133.exe Go to support.dell.com and type in “R189133.exe” in the search box at the top of the page. The only result you will get will take you right to the download page for the file. All the other drivers that I got by entering the laptop’s service tag worked fine.
For those of you having problems with some of the other drivers. It is important that you install them in the correct order. I do several systems, laptops and desktops, per month. Here is the order that I use:
1. BIOS (new machines usually up to date)
2. Chipset.
3. Video/Graphics
4. Ethernet (wired network)
5. Wireless
6. Modem (if present)
7. Sound
8. Card Reader
9. Touchpad (laptops only, duh!)
10. Anything left (Webcam, etc.)
Though not always necessary, I always reboot when suggested/requested by the install. On occasion you’ll have issues with the Ethernet and/or Wireless. When this happens, before you throw the system out the window, try a complete power-down, pull the battery or remove the power cord for a couple of minutes.
i require dell drivers for my notebook dell inspiron 1545.

Yep another successful Vista-to-XP install here.
Thx to evryone for all the help, a great laptop indeed.
Just to remind people to install the wifi card given by
Craig MANUALLY, because it will say OS not supported unless
you do it manually!
Vista is a piece of &*$% thats why microsoft have nearly finished Windows Seven. anyhoo thx again guys
XP FOREVER!
@johann Thanks for the ATA tip. I was getting bluescreens trying to instal XP Pro sp2 until I saw your post.
I don’t know why, but the FN key its now the ALT key.
Please can anyone update on how to get the CAPSLOCK indicator working on my dell Inspiron 1545. Everything else works fine. For my wireless drivers i installed the Wireless drivers 206848 from my origal dell drivers CD (for vista) and ran the wizard from the device manager and it worked fine.
Kind Regards.
i changed from vista to xp on my dell 1545 and i spent like 4 hours looking for the drivers then i tought that maybe the wireless vista driver was going to work fine with xp so i use the drivers disc and for my surprise all of the drivers appeared automatically and all of them work
but i also have the same issue with the sudio NO bass sound
can someone that still have vista installed check if there is an application installed that may be working together with the driver ? like a contro interface or soemthing like that??
because it seems that this sound driver detects when you plug in headphones or external audio speakers and release the bass but when you unplugg it to use the speakers in the laptop it automatically disables the bass to prevent the lap speakers form crakling…except that in xp it doesnt relase the bass
@Scott Simmons : Many thanks.. followed your instructions and my Wireless is working fine…
hi everybody,
can somebody help me to get the drivers for xp 64bit on inspiron 1545.
i actually want the driver for the sound card IDT 92HD71B.
please help.
You can download the Dell wireless driver for Inspiron 1545 from the below link:
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R201538&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=279934
This works absolutely fine. This link was given by Dell Support for this driver.
OK, so I got a Dell Inspiron 1545 that came with Vista Basic. Installed XP Pro on it. Updated to SP3 with the latest Windows updates. All drivers are installed. I have ONE problem:
I have no way of knowing how much juice I have left in the battery. If I have it plugged in, the Power Options tray icon will indicate it is plugged in. If I unplug it, it will still say that.
I’ve tried using Dell Quickset software and, under the Battery Meter app, it shows the Battery Status tab all grayed out.
I have reinstalled the Chipset driver so many times. Any ideas?
hey guyz how did u guyz download that damn driver from da chinese/japanese website? am stuk cnt read a thin on that page.
Thanks Craig, your instruction for the 1395 install worked.
I noticed that after running the executable, it unzipped as normal, but then also attempted to install itself, with an error.
But thereafter I followed your instructions and no problem.
It might even work with the 1397 someone else recommended but “if it ain’t broke, don’t touch it” – so I’ll leave it for now
Cheers
Chris
Hi All,
I got a new Inspiron 1545 that came with a large partition(C: Vista installed) and another D: drive for recovery.
Now I would like to create a total of multiple(3) partitions and install XP in one of them, Vista on other and the rest will be for data storage. Following are my queries regarding this.
1. I heard that the recovery will not work if the C drive is formatted. In that case can I simply delete this recovery partition, are there any disadv?
2. How can I create multiple partitions of custom size as the “Shrink Volume” option in Vista has some limitations on the size of the partition we can create?
3. Following is the procedure that I am thinking to adopt, please let me know the merits/de-merits of it.
First I will use the Vista dvd I have to delete all existing partitions(C: and the Recovery partition) so that all space will be unpartitioned.
Then using the same dvd and the option to create partition, I will create multiple partitions of custom size and take out the Vista dvd
Insert Windows XP disc and install XP on one of the drives
Then insert Vista dvd and install on the other drive.
I need suggestions or information about whether this will work and solve my purpose….
Also would like to know the order in which the drivers need to be installed for XP. I can see that the drivers for XP are available on Dell site as well.
Pls…Pls…Waiting for your reply…
Hi,
thank you for this awesome Forum.
I installed xp with SP3 on my inspiron 1545. The only driver that I can’t get to work is the garphic driver.
After I installed XP and SP3. I installed the drivers with the installer from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AJAEOUV1
Straight afterwards I had still an ! on the sounddriver and no graphiccard installed.
I installed the xp sounddriver from the dell website, which worked fine.
My problem is that no matter what vga driver I try to install, I always get the message:
the system doesn’t have the minimal configuration required to install that software. The installation will be stopped(I translated that from french)
I tried to install the latest xp driver from the dell website:
Intel GM 45 video 6.14.10.4990, A00
afterwards the driver that Ryan posted here on Feb 4th, even though that is a xp 64bit version driver. I also tried the 32 bit version.
Afterwards I tried the Intel-GFX-14.36.3.4990.exe which is at the top of this page.
I always get this error message. Please help me.
Cheers
Ingo
Hi guys…..
gud news i found hw to fix no bass problem in dell inspiron 1545 if still vista files are ther go to that drive and check for idt folder ther u run idt applet then restart ur xp will not find ur sound driver just run sound driver again it will diagnosis the old driver then just try to play a song … its very simple ….. if any question plz reply for this post

btw I just wanted to add that I’ve seen print ads in the national press from Dell advertising the wireless as 1397.
Even though I’m using the 1395 driver, perhaps if I rebuild one day I will use the 1397 instead.
Hi,
Thanks everyone for all this information. But, can anyone pull me out of the confusion I posted above….???
I am searching for the webcam drivers for windows xp. Any one is there who can tell me the way to find that driver for my laptop inspiron 1545 of dell.
Confirmed the R189133.exe driver works perfectly for the
“Wireless Networking Cards Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini-Card” on the Dell 1545 laptop.
Search on Dells site for R189133 as Scott Simmons indicated above or download directly from
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R189133&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=259099
El driver del wireless 1397 es el mismo que el de la latitud E5500
The dell wireless 1397 is the same driver of Dell latitud E5500
Ran into same problems changing from Vista to XP SP3. Found this site. Think I need to thank Craig.
Dell’s site has everything but the 1397 drivers for XP. You can even order the 1397 on other laptops and XP but they would not work. Used the R174291.exe driver and followed Craig’s instructions. Almost ready to send the machine back.
Thanks again for the info.
famosd
@ Craig : Thanks a lot…
Admin can you please post all the working drivers link again for Dell Inspirion 1545 64-Bit. all the above information are meshing with each other (Thanks to Craig).
Hi,
if one uses all of the above drivers for XP(on the very top of the page) for the Dell Inspiron 1545 does that include the audio and wireless drivers?
The driver I am looking for is the
Dell Wireless 1515 802.11 Wireless-N Mini-card for windows XP
Please help!
hey im trying to put xp on my machine im getting to the licensing agreement page and it just keeps freezing ?
do i need to wipe my hard drive then put xp on it
thanks ethan
Hi,
@Craig – Thanks to information provided by you, I was able to successfully do the below,
I just got an Inspiron 1545 with Vista Home
I successfully partitioned and installed WinXP SP3 (Dual boot) on D:\ and used all the XP drivers for 1545 provided by DELL on their support website. (My wireless card is 1515 mini-card whose driver is available at the DELL website)
So, no problems so far.
However, there is a small irritant — The function keys for Wireless, Volume control etc work. But I am not getting the visualization accompanying the key action. e.g. In Vista, if I decrease volume, there is a visualization showing the volume level decreasing. However, this is not there in XP.
This might be very elementary, but for some reason I am not able to fix it. Anyone have any ideas on what I need to install for this?
Thanks,
Kizuki
ethan thats right, you dont need to wipe the hard drive, instead install the hard drive quantifier before you launch the xero 342.5 v driver set in the bios page of the c-set, it located in the mendos folder.
hey Kikuzi, i have exactly the same issue as you! until i read your post i didn’t actually realise they were working, but they clearly are – just there is no visualisation on the screen to indicate this.
don’t have a solution sorry, but would love to hear one
Dave

I got my new Dell 1545 today and I’m trying to install XP and the laptop blue screened twice. Is there a trick to this that I’m missing?
Thanks to everyone, this information was very usefull.
In regards to the Atheros driver the one that worked for me was this: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R201509&SystemID=INSPIRON1545&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=18056&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=279843
Now, here we go with the (minor) problems.
1- I found very usefull the “eject” CD key (the one next to print screen key), but after the XP instalation she was gone… Anyone knows how turn this on??
2- I have the Soundblaster X-fi 1.0 sound card, but can´t find the drivers
Thanks in advance
Done!
If anyone have the same problem just install Dell Quickset, provided with your computer. It has a lot of drivers for XP. Also fixes the multimedia/function keys issue.
Hi all,
I have xp on my inspiron 1545. there is a keyboard problem though with the driver (standart 101/102-key or microsoft natural ps/2 keyboard). For example: can’t use the volume control keys or the battery saving key or any of the function keys. Which drivers do you use for the keyboard? Are they listed above and I don’t get it? Would be really great to get advise.
Thanks a lot!

hi,my webcam is not working and I dont see any problem wrong with it but seem not to be working.please try and help me out with my problem.I have the whole drivers of my laptop but still it’s not working.
Hello!
I got an inspiron 1545 almost against my will, and since i don’t fancy Vista i installed xp. Checked online beforehand and found out about the ATA-setting, and then i installed xp sp2 without any problems. I removed all partitions that was there previously.
i ran into the same problems as everyone here, but have now discovered that i was reading about the 1525, so that is maybe why i have not gotten drivers to work.
Before i try again there is something that bothers me:
a removable disc icon shows up even though there are none inserted into the machine. The same thing in vista when i tried to re-install it (i could not get wireless to work with vista either). i suspect that it may be due to that i removed all partitions before installing xp, but that is just a guess. anyone know?
cannot find anything about removable discs showing up when not apperent…
Please can anyone update on how to get the CAPSLOCK (and multimedia keys) indicator working on my dell Inspiron 1545. Everything else works fine.
It was working fine for 3 months until I had to reinstall Vista. So, What I have to do to setup these indicators on screen again?
Tks in advance
I saw in another forum and solved my issue.
For view the indicators the Dell Quick Set shall be installed.

i using Dell INSPIRON 1440. The original OS is windows vista, now i already downgrade it using XP. Therefore i have problem to find out wireless driver for this enhancement machine…. could your all out there help me? TQ
Hi , I got the tray Icon to work for the Caps lock key. Find the following exe file, C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe. When it is running I get the notifacation in thr tray area that Caps lock is on. I ended up adding it to the registry under local machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run. I added a new string value and just typed in C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe. works all of the time now.
To Catha and Natasha (function keys on keyboard) : I had the same problem as you had. I solved it by installing Dell QuickSet, and then by configuring, in Dell QuickSet, the behaviour of the function key.
With this, I also don’t have to press Fn when I press Alt+F4…

To Craig: Congrats on your work to find most of the XP
drivers for the 1545. I have just purchased a 1545 and will
take possession of it within a week. My intention is also
to switch over from Vista to XP. My unit has 3g ram, 160GB HD,
no webcam, 2G duo core proc. Are all the drivers I need
located at the top of this page, and is there a set order
I should use to install them?? Any help is greatly appreciated
as I want to get all the files ready before the machine
arrives. Thanks!
I love all the comments and the help everyone is giving everyone else, i think i can find the drivers i need with the help of my nephew who works at dell, however i cannot get that far in setting up xp on my new 1545, when i get to the user agreement to click on f8, to agree to the user agreement it doesn’t work, i know the keys work, because i can click escape but why doesn’t the f8 work?

Hey guys, i’ve been reading all through this blog to find drivers for my 1545 with XP. I downgraded from windows 7, if anyone else is having the same problems as me. The wireless is functioning now
Now I can download the remaining drivers.
I didn’t need internet on the laptop to get the drivers, I just downloaded them onto my desktop and transfered them across.
Here’s what you do:
1. Download the drivers you need (For wireless, I have a 1395 WLAN card, so I got that off the dell website)
2. Download the driver installer
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AJAEOUV1 (Thank you so much to the dude that made this)
3. Transfer it to your laptop, along with all the drivers.
4. Run the installer and make sure it’s in the same folder as your drivers.
5. Once it has finished, restart your 1545 and it should all be working
E-mail me at hugh_heyworth@yahoo.co.uk or add me on windows live if you want any more help. I know how bad it feels to have a laptop not working. My parents took it back to PC world at one point and the staff were so rude, they took it home and I found the appropriate software off here.
Peace
Works fine. Now I have Dell 1545 with XP pro. Thank You very much!
Hello everyone! Please help!
