The Acer Aspire 5315 laptop is a cheap price laptop which comes with Windows Vista, which is quite great but the problem is that its hardware specifications are not good enough to make Vista run smoothly. I had one Aspire 5313 and after using it for a month I thought about to change the operating system to windows xp. For that first I had to change some bios settings for SATA Mode from AHCI to IDE. Otherwise windows xp will crash during installation.

After the installation i was stuck with the drivers, as there is no support for windows xp on Acer’s website. I did some research and finally found the drivers manually.

Okay, for those having problems, follow the steps below and you’ll have all of your drivers installed in no time:
- BEFORE installing Windows XP, you need to enter your BIOS/setup screen. To do this, you need to repeatedly press F2 as soon as you press your computer’s power button. Scroll over until you see the settings for SATA MODE. Change the setting from “AHCI” to “IDE”. Press F10 to save the settings to CMOS and exit the BIOS screen.
- Insert your Windows XP disc and install as normal.
- Once the installation is complete, it’s time to start on the drivers.
- Use another computer to download the “ATHEROS WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER” and the “ACER ASPIRE LAN CARD/ETHERNET” drivers onto a flash drive. Transfer the files to your Aspire 5315.
- MAKE SURE THAT YOU UNZIP/UNCOMPRESS/EXTRACT the files before you try to install them. You can do this by right clicking each folder and choosing “EXTRACT FOLDER” or by installing WINZIP or WINRAR and unzipping them. REMEMBER WHERE YOU UNZIP THE FOLDERS!!
- Run the SETUP.EXE within each folder and allow the drivers to fully install. If it prompts you to choose a location to locate the drivers, navigate to the folder t

Hi, I tried to download and install the audio driver set a couple times, but the extraction failed for start. Any clue what’s the problem?
i didnt have this problem because i made a cd with those drivers , try “Driver Genius Professional” software it find drivers too oh one more thing if you are using acer 5315 you might face the overheating thing with win XP so i advice you to install acer utilties for xp from this site it includes : recommend installing drivers in this order:
1.Realtek HD Audio Driver
2.Intel Chipset Driver
3.Intel Graphics Driver
4.Atheros WiFi Driver
5.Broadcom Ethernet Driver
6.Launch Manager
7.Touchpad Driver

- You should now have internet access and be able to download the rest of the driver files.
- Follow the same steps for EACH DRIVER you install. UNZIP FIRST, then run the installer.
- For those having a problem extracting the SOUND CARD drivers, you will need to use the SECOND LINK provided, as the first link is corrupted. The second link can take a loooong time, but be patient and let it download completely. Unzip the folder and run the SETUP.exe file as you did before with the other drivers. The installation will seem to be interrupted, but just ignore the messages and let the drivers install in the background, behind the “error” messages. All in all, the sound card drivers can take up to 30 minutes to install properly.
- If you follow these instructions, you will have you drivers and be rid of the headache that is Vista.
